A mala is a set of 108 beads used during meditation. A mala is used to focus awareness and concentration while breathing or repeating a mantra. Malas have been used for thousands of years by practitioners from many traditions. The benefits of a mala practice are numerous and as unique as the individual practitioner.

In this workshop, each participant creates a beautiful and one-of-a-kind mala. Participants learn more about the mala including its history and tradition, how to use it, the significance of each bead, the healing properties of the gems and the  meaning of 108. Participants also discuss of the first two limbs of yoga (yamas and niyamas) and how they can enhance the mala practice. This workshop includes the repetition of a simple mantra. This workshop concludes with the chanting of simple mantra and final relaxation.

This workshop is beautiful and powerful. It is wonderful for those wanting to dip their toes into yoga philosophy. Many participants comment that this workshop sparked their further exploration of the many aspects of yoga beyond the postures. Others comment that the healing properties of the gems have benefited their lives. The lessons of this workshop are as varied as the people present and it has a wonderful way of working out just right for all.
