Sam Spitzer, RYT 200

Sam came to yoga soon after moving to Seattle in 2004. She teaches because she believes we all have the power to heal and live lives of joy, and that yoga can help. Sam's intention in teaching is to provide an avenue for each student to discover, honor and listen to the teacher within. If there is one thing Sam aims to get across, it is that you never need to be any more or less to practice yoga.

Sam is passionate about introducing yoga to beginners; the sparks in their eyes as the path of yoga becomes clear is a joy in her life. She also has a special interest is working with people who are injured or who need different options for practicing safely. All of Sam's classes emphasize back care, and so her classes are a wonderful space for people with back injuries. This special interest stems from her own life experience, as she was born with a back condition and is using yoga to heal from a more recent back injury. For this reason, she is dedicated to helping create a world of smiling spines. If you are interested in back care, read more about Back Care Yoga offered as part of Private/Specialized Services.

Sam's current journey involves more deeply exploring the many layers of yoga, beyond postures and physical form, and she is always thrilled to be part of a person's deeper journey into yoga. In all classes, Sam emphasizes the integrity of each pose and letting go of preconceived notions of what the body can or cannot do. She fosters a supportive, non-competitive and fun environment where students are respected and given permission to be themselves.

Sam completed her 200-hour teacher training at the Hatha Yoga Center in Seattle. She is looking forward to studying yoga and Ayurvedic medicine in India in October 2010. She is deeply inspired by Donna Farhi and, after decades of this not being the case, the teacher she is falling in love with most is her inner one.
